Making of a Modern Wingback.

What looks like a pretty chair is so much more to us. It was to be a place the owner would want to spend a lazy evening in with their favorite book. So we took to our sketch pad and made our version of a modern wingback that once paired with a footstool would be at the right tilt.

We didn’t stop there, we took our client’s measurements to be sure the seat was at the right depth and height. That the arms rose to the right height. That the lumbar support was perfectly fitted to their back. This wasn’t to be a chair that was OK. We wanted it to be a chair they’d take a deep sigh once they sat in it.

Fabrics that would work with the rest of the room we were designing were selected thoughtfully. Thoughtfully because the patterned cut velvet was positioned on the outside back so it would be what was seen as people entered the room, a request was leather from the client was met on the inside back and deck. And the seat was a reversible combination of the same leather and a blue velvet that was a perfect match to both the leather and the velvet on the reverse. The velvet side was selected to prevent the homeowner sliding down too much as they read. Everything chosen had a reason for it.

What we ended up with was just what we hoped…a chair they now spend lazy evenings in.
