Curb Appeal

When selling your home doing the inside won’t mean much if you don’t up the curb appeal to get them inside the door.

While a previous client had invited us over to do a paint consult we asked if they were open to relatively small but profitable changes as well.

We had always wanted to remove the embellishments on the facade. Overall they were just too fussy and gave an expectation of an ornate interior. And the door was builder grade quality and more appropriate in a lower priced neighborhood.

With the client’s trust we selected a made-to-order door and sidelights that would fit in the existing casing so no brickwork would be necessary. The door was stained a rich mahogany and featured seedy baroque glass for a measure of privacy. The existing palladian top had it’s panes removed and replaced with a matchy seedy baroque glass layer.

We wanted more definition to the facade above the porch and outlined it with curved millwork. Everything else was done with editing and paint. Most of the embellishments were removed and cooler tones of paint were specified. No faux paint allowed this time.

All that was missing was the planned plantings. How did you add curb appeal to your exterior?
