What’s trending in custom cabinetry

Wood tones are back. Drawers are being favored. Unique door styles are being requested. And interior customization remains a request in the luxury market.

If the yellow and orange tones of 2000 kitchens gave you PTSD not to worry. The wood tones designers are selecting in 2024 are richer and lean more neutral in undertones. We’re also wisely choosing wood species that naturally lean towards the look we’re after. We’re seeing more walnut, white oak, even alder. Of course with custom cabinetry you can achieve most any tone you’re after.  If you look at the lower cabinetry on the top right you’ll see rich walnut on a reeded drawer front. The island is a beautiful focal point here while the light neutral color used on the perimeter keeps the room feeling light and bright. For those that prefer the look of paint we’re seeing designer’s pushing people towards greens and blues in several shades. We just did a home bar in a pacific teal that is gorgeous.

Neutral white oak cabinets have simple oversized features that allow the wood grain to be the star.

We also have been favoring the use of drawers over doors on lowers for a while now too. A good designer can even make it work where sinks exist. We’d rather have the contents of a cabinet roll out to us than have to lean down to get it. Drawers will also have less wasted space than doors with interior drawers. And no need for the classic shaker door style filling every drawer and door front.

The cross bar on these pale blue cabinets is definitely a custom design and looks lovely here as it's used sparringly.

This pale blue bath uses a mix of cabinet fronts. Xcrosses, inset glass, arched tops, even plain. It works because the designer unified them with a single paint color and was restrained when deciding which fronts to apply the more detailed features.

Speaking of features interior customization remains one of the popular requests in our custom cabinetry. Some of what we’re seeing includes double tray drawers, walnut trays, swing out corners, and electrical connections for small appliances.

We’ll leave you with a few more interior options that are popular right now. What about you? What features are you looking for in your cabinetry?

Both the sliding tray and the drawer here are done in walnut.

Because it's custom everything can have it's own place.
Just like your great grandmother had.
