Moodboard : Verdant Femme

The owner of this dining room is a fabulous floral designer living in the heart of the historic district of the city. We knew her trademark color was pink and she had recently purchased an abstract floral in pinks, greens, navy, and golds that she adored. We also knew this dining room does double duty as the main entry into the home despite it having a proper front door elsewhere. And lastly we knew she was downsizing as her now adult son was making plans for his own home. It was time for mom to design just for her in mind.

We knew we wanted to create something for her that was sexy, adult, and feminine without being fru fru. And we wanted to include an urn based wooden table from her wish list. So we set about creating a gardenesque room that would set the tone of her home and act as a springboard for doing future rooms.

The ideal start for us was in sourcing this lovely wallpaper in dark bronze and white with plenty of negative space to allow light to bounce off it. We are refinishing an existing tall sideboard and then shifting from the brown tones to a beautiful olive green on the mohair chairs. We have these same chairs in indigo in our own home and they are comfortable enough to linger in for hours.

The same olive in a lighter shade is covering the ceiling and contrasted by the white beads of the chandelier. Her trademark pink is then brought in with the fuschia phalenopsis orchids on the table and in abstract art for the wall.

A brass or hammered silver mirror will allow even more light to bounce off it and the tall olive branches on the sideboard bring the trees off the wall and into the space. The large bowl on the sideboard is a catch-all for keys and sunglasses.
